THE MEDITERRANEE PALACE IN NICE, FRANCE (11 photos)
Inaugurated in 1929, Palais de la Mediterranee reigned supreme over Nice and Promenade des Anglais for 50 years. A temple to luxury, gambling leisure and the arts, this institution dubbed the 'Paquebot' (Ocean Liner) was at the heart of the life of Nice. Despite its fame, it closed its doors in 1978, to be reborn in all its plendour in 2004.
