Created in 1955 in Barretos, the "Peão de Boiadeiro" festival pays tribute to the guardian of a huge cattle herds, an emblematic man of Brazil's history since its colonization. Horse-riding the vast Brazilian plains and facing rough conditions, he has, over time, fashioned his mostll nomadic life, which became the origin of the "Caipira" (country) tradition. As of late, thanks to this tradition, a large majority of the country has become aware of the importance to cultivate their rural identity.
Colorful characters full of folklore, the "Peões", coming from all over Brazil meet for these festive days, where rodeos, typical competitions, musical shows and a nocturnal atmosphere intermingle, plunging the town into an exciting effervescence.
Today rodeos have become one of the most popular national sports, the public being seven times more important than for the brazilian football championship !
It would be high time to discover this event giving one the opportunity to mix with so many worldwide rodeo professionals and empassioned horse and bull breeders, figures who kepp the "caipira" alive, symbol of the inland conquest...
